“The Company was started in 2018 where we made our first work ‘My dear, time has passed.’ Our research centres around practice that elicits ways of being as performance through improvisation. Our aim is to continue with research at the forefront of our making, to annotate and distinguish a methodology that is elastic with curiosity, in our ways of being, at the forefront, how this may be applied in the art of performance making.”
In 2019 I composed and performed a solo guitar piece for ‘The Bakani Pick-up Company’. The music was made to accompany a dance performance at ‘The Place London’ for ‘The Resolutions Dance Festival 2019’.
The process involved me attending rehearsals where I watched the dancers and started to build the composition they would perform to. This required me to freely improvise to their movement to make something that could loosely fit around their performance.
The performance was very well received, artist Anthea Hamilton wrote in “Walker Magazine” that it was one of the most noteworthy events she attended in 2019. See the full article below:
